"During this year’s “Golden Week” National Day holiday, shopping malls, supermarkets, and farmers’ markets across many parts of China appeared unusually quiet. In commercial districts of Yiwu and Shaoxing in Zhejiang, Shenzhen in Guangdong, and Xiamen and Quanzhou in Fujian, foot traffic dropped noticeably. Many store owners and citizens said that business this year was abnormally bleak compared to previous holidays — unusually quiet, to a worrying extent.
