What China just did completely Humiliated NASA, even SpaceX
No matter what field the U.S. pursues in rocketry and space, China is right there as a looming competitor. From the Moon race, national defense, orbital space stations, to satellite launches, they’re catching up fast, so fast that aerospace experts are warning: without decisive action and a clear strategy, by 2030 China could not only overtake but actually be a full decade ahead of America in space technology.
And even SpaceX, the world’s leading private space company, isn’t immune to this threat. But can that threat really hold up against SpaceX’s breakneck pace of innovation?
Let’s break it down in today’s episode of Alpha Tech

A lot of people still point to NASA’s Apollo era, when we put humans on the Moon, a breathtaking achievement that outshined almost every other nation, including China. But that was then, and this is now. The space race today is a whole different game. Winning in the past doesn’t mean leading in the present, and right now, the U.S. is clearly struggling to keep pace.
Why? On October 1, 2025, the U.S. government officially shut down because Congress failed to pass a budget on time. This forced NASA to furlough roughly 15,000 employees, over 83% of its federal workforce. That’s right: they’re off work… and not getting paid. Only about 3,100 employees are considered “essential” and continue to work without pay, focusing solely on tasks that protect life and property.

This is causing a serious disruption to the space activities NASA normally oversees. Of course, high-priority operations like managing the International Space Station continue fully, including 24/7 ground control to monitor and support the six-person crew in orbit.
But other scientific and research missions are hit hard: most deep-space robotic projects, public education programs, NASA center tours, website updates, and NASA TV are completely paused. This could delay observation proposals for the James Webb Space Telescope, or even cancel new launches if proper oversight isn’t available.
