This week something a bit different! I explore the stunning Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, the royal residence that became Queen Victoria’s personal sanctuary and most beloved home. In this full walkthrough, we go beyond the grand Italianate façade to reveal the intimate details of Victoria and Albert’s private lives, this may be the saddest royal residence of all.

You’ll see the rooms where they lived, worked, and grieved: Prince Albert’s bathroom with its state-of-the-art 19th-century plumbing, Queen Victoria’s private lift and shower, and the bedroom where she died. We also explore the Swiss Cottage, the private beach, and the incredibly spectacular Dunbar Wing. This is not your average holiday home!

Based on Queen Victoria’s diary entries and historically accurate sources, this video is for anyone fascinated by Victorian history, royal lives, and the social history of some of best love monarchs.

My name is Lucy, I am a social historian and obsessed with the kind of history that is interested in real lives, not politics. Osborne House is near East Cowes on the Isle of the Wight and is currently managed by English Heritage, entrance fees apply which as always I paid in full, entrance is free to members of English heritage. The most up to date entry costs can be found on the English Heritage website. Please support your local history locations!
