Family car test! Lexus GX 2025 review: The best version of the Toyota LandCruiser Prado 250 Series?
The 2025 Lexus GX is the large SUV that Australian premium car buyers didn't think they'd get the chance to own. Yep, it's the first model in the third-generation series to be sold locally, with the four-wheel-drive having previously been primarily sold in the North American market.
The new Japanese car's appeal is strong Down Under, as it's is based on the the recently launched Toyota LandCruiser Prado 250 Series, which has been selling like hotcakes since its arrival. But the GX goes its own way with its 260kW/650Nm 3.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine, dubbed GX550 – there's no diesel option here. That said, it otherwise sacrifices none of its genuine off-road performance.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the GX550's comfort-focused Sports Luxury variant to find out if it's been worth the wait.
