Hirschprungske Collection and Roskilde Monastery
In this video I visit the lovely Hirschprungske Collection, a Copenhagen art museum. I loved the special exhibition there with paintings of the Danish seaside. As I've mentioned before, I love the Danish coast and our beaches. I feel a sense of calm being by the sea, and have done for as long as I can remember. And it turns out well, as this is kind of a foreshadowing of my next videos to come, too ☺️
Then I went to Roskilde, and took a guided tour of Roskilde Monastery. It was fascinating to be invited inside to what is normally private, and behind closed doors. The story of the monastery and how the place evolved and changed ownership over time was very interesting to hear. I especially enjoyed the story of the two widows Margrethe Ulfeldt and Berthe Skeel who bought the place in the 1600's with their own money. They turned the place into a monastery for unmarried noblewomen. Noblewomen's positions were fragile at the time. They could not earn their own money and were dependent on marriage, and a husband's income. In my opinion, Berte Skeel and Margrethe Ulfeldt were visionaries of their time, as they provided refuge for these women.
I end the video checking in on the sweet Highland cattle who have been featured on my channel before ☺️☺️
Plenty more is coming up, so stay tuned! Thanks for following along.
