SpaceX Starship Pad 2 Full Tested with Insane Pressure, Left NASA Speechless!
SpaceX just did it again! Only days after a small-scale water deluge test, the company made headlines with a much larger trial at Pad 2, a clear sign of rapid progress toward the first Starship Block 3 launch later this year. Meanwhile, Blue Origin has officially retired its New Shepard capsule following the successful NS-35 mission just yesterday. And Northrop Grumman is also in the spotlight, as its Cygnus XL successfully reached the ISS on its very first flight aboard Falcon 9.
Let’s dive into all of these updates in today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

Right now, SpaceX is in a true race against time at Starbase. With only three months left before Christmas, every piece of work has to move at lightning speed so employees can finally enjoy their holiday break.
And the pressure couldn’t be higher. SpaceX has two massive priorities on its plate. First, they need to pull off Starship Flight 11, the very last mission of Block 2, before shutting down Launch Pad 1 for major upgrades to support the brand-new Block 3. Second, they’re pushing hard to bring Launch Pad 2 online at full capacity. If everything stays on track, Pad 2 will host Flight 12, the very first mission of the next-generation Starship, before the calendar flips to 2026.

And SpaceX’s latest activities are proving just how urgent things have become. Just a few days ago, observers spotted a small-scale test of the brand-new water deluge system. Only a single stream of water shot up from beneath the OLM for a few seconds before shutting off. That test came right after SpaceX finished installing the new gas generators and water farm last month.
But then, just yesterday afternoon, September 18th, SpaceX took their water deluge testing at Pad 2 to an entirely new level, marking a huge step forward in completing Starship’s second launch pad.
Unlike the earlier runs, this time the system was fired up to roughly 30% power, far stronger than the initial 5 to 10% tests. Water was blasted through the flame trench at immense pressure, erupting into massive columns shooting out from both sides of the flame deflector beneath the Orbital Launch Mount.
