Patricia Janečková Performs Handel’s Acis and Galatea (2017 Highlights)

Enjoy selected arias from Handel’s pastoral opera Acis and Galatea, performed in 2017 by soprano Patricia Janečková in the role of Galatea.

Composed in 1731 with a libretto by John Gay, the opera tells the story of the nymph Galatea and the shepherd Acis. Their happiness is shattered when the jealous giant Polyphemus kills Acis, but Galatea, thanks to her divine power, transforms him into a fountain, granting him eternal life.

This performance features the Baroque ensemble Collegium Marianum (14 instrumentalists) under the artistic direction of Jana Semerádová, with Patricia Janečková (soprano) as Galatea and Benedikt Kristjánsson (tenor, Norway) as Acis.
