Hi everyone, welcome back to 'Journey to the West: Divine Words'.
In our last episode, we met the boy at the cave gate, who led Monkey King to the Master.
Today, we continue with the poem that reveals his true nature—an eternal child, beyond time and corruption.
Poem
A timeless guest beyond the dust of the world,
An eternal youth dwelling within the mountains.
Untouched by even the smallest stain,
He let the years roll by like tumbling clouds.

Explanation
He is not bound to human worries of gain or loss. Like a traveller from another realm, he lives beyond the reach of worldly concerns. His presence alone tells us: there is another way of life, one that is free, serene, and untouched by the dust of the world.
Although years may pass, his spirit remains unchanged. Just as the mountains remain, season after season, he too remains innocent, fresh, and pure. Time does not age him—because he is rooted in the eternal.
The corruption of the world cannot cling to him. Like a lotus rising above muddy water, his robes and heart remain unstained. He reminds us that it is possible to live in the world without being of the world.
Spring turns to summer, autumn to winter, dynasties rise and fall, but he is unchanged. Time flows like drifting clouds in the sky—he watches them pass, holding fast to purity.

This boy is more than a servant in the story. He is a living parable of cultivation itself:
to step beyond dust, to keep the spirit youthful, to remain unstained, and to endure through the tumbling years.
...
These fleeting experiences remind us of what Journey to the West calls the “eternal boy”:
a heart free of dust, uncaging, always innocent.
These moments show us what the “eternal child” really means: the pure heart within us, untainted by the dust of the world.

Parents know this very well. When children are young, they are naturally kind and innocent. We all love them, and no one wants to harm them. But how we teach them matters.
