This is One of the Greatest Comebacks in Japanese Volleyball History !!! Japan’s victory over Argentina in the 2025 Men’s Volleyball Nations League is considered one of the greatest comebacks in Japanese volleyball history because of the dramatic way the match unfolded. Japan fell behind 0-2 after losing the first two sets by the narrow margin of 23-25 in both. At that point, Argentina was in full control, and Japan’s chances looked slim. However, instead of collapsing, Japan completely changed the rhythm of the match, bringing in key substitutions such as Nagatsuyu as setter and Ogawa as libero, which stabilized their play.

In the third set, Japan rediscovered their momentum through strong serves and decisive attacks, especially from Kento Miyaura, who kept scoring at crucial moments. The fourth set showed their resilience even more, as they fought back from being down 17-19 and turned it around with clutch serving from Yuto Kai and Ai Takahashi before Miyaura sealed it with a spike. With the score tied 2-2, Japan carried that energy into the fifth set, where substitute players like Masama Tomita and Taito Nishiyama stepped up alongside Miyaura. They held their nerve in the tight race to 15 and finally closed it out 15-13 after Argentina’s service error.

This comeback is historic because Japan overturned a two-set deficit against a tough opponent in a match where every set was decided by small margins. It highlighted their depth, mental toughness, and the ability of both starters and substitutes to contribute under pressure. Winning 3-2 after trailing 0-2 in such a high-level international competition marks it as one of the greatest comebacks in Japanese volleyball history.
