Grandma, 97, gets to perform with high school cheerleading squad one last time

At 97 years young, Ilagene Doehring recently fulfilled her dream of being a cheerleader again—on the very squad she helped start over 80 years ago.

When Ilagene told her caretakers she wished to wear her old Merrill High uniform one last time, they made magic happen. Teaming up with today’s cheer squad, they surprised Ilagene with a new uniform at her assisted living home.

The moment was unforgettable—she taught the team classic cheers, shared stories, and even performed a stunt! Her joy lit up the room as she quipped, “I feel famous for a day!”
