Let's go inside this pearl of ancient Egyptian architecture. The Temple of Horus in Edfu is shown like never before in my own History Documentary!
The city of Edfu is located halfway between Luxor and Aswan. It’s famous for the ancient sanctuary of Horus, a gigantic temple built gradually by successive Ptolemaic kings, from Ptolemy III to Cleopatra VII.
As you will see, it’s huge, perhaps the largest temple complex in Egypt, right after Kanak. It’s certainly Egypt’s most well-preserved temple; it stood safely on a hill that wasn’t affected by the floods of the Nile. Buried under the desert sands it survived for over 2000 years to become, according to some, the best preserved temple of the ancient world!
