The Mother You Never Expected!
The Eagle Mother's Lesson
One day, an eagle taught a woman how to raise a child.
“Are you well, human mother?” the eagle asked.
The woman looked at her in surprise.
“I’m afraid,” she said. “My child will be born soon, and I have so many doubts. I want the best for them — a beautiful, easy life… But how will I know I’m raising them right?”
The eagle landed on a branch nearby and answered:
“Raising a child does not mean keeping them comfortable. On the contrary — when my chicks are born, I fill the nest with soft feathers and grass. It is warm and safe. But when it is time for them to grow, I remove everything. I leave only the thorns.”
The woman frowned.
“Thorns? Isn’t that cruel?”
The eagle looked into her eyes.
“Discomfort creates movement. The thorns make them want more — to rise, to fly, to find their place. Comfort teaches nothing.”
The woman paused, still worried.
“But what if they fall?”
“They do fall,” said the eagle, nodding.
“I throw them into the wind. They fall. I catch them. And I throw them again. Over and over — until they learn to fly. And then? I let them go. I stop helping.”
The woman’s eyes widened.
“But what if they’re not ready?”
“They never will be,” said the eagle, “until they try. If I always protect them, they’ll never learn. The goal is not to make them suffer — it’s to help them grow. Even if it hurts you.”
The woman placed her hand on her belly, took a deep breath, and smiled.
“Thank you, mother eagle. Your wisdom is a gift.”
And she walked on — ready to become the mother her child would need:
Not perfect, but strong.
A mother who would teach her child to fly.
