The story you’re about to read is definitely not one of the easiest to tell, or to write that is. However, it remains a beautiful story of love and hope.
It all started with Matvey born on 16th November 2014, in a hospital in Tula, Russia. At first, he seemed just like regular newborns, reddish but healthy and of normal weight. A couple of days after he made his entrance to the world, his doctors realized that he had developed a mild case of jaundice. The symptoms of jaundice are yellowing of the skin and whites around the eyes. It is a condition caused by elevated levels of bilirubin. Jaundice is common in newborns and is not a cause for concern, however, if left unchecked, it can lead to permanent deafness or brain damage.
