What Florida's gov just did with SpaceX Starship Humiliated Cali gov…
Florida just took a bold step with SpaceX Starship that left California’s governor totally embarrassed!
When SpaceX was mainly operating out of California, progress was painfully slow.
They kept running into strict regulations, pointless lawsuits, and ridiculous taxes, all of which dragged Starship’s development through the mud.
But everything changed when SpaceX moved its operations to Texas, a place Elon Musk calls a rocket-building paradise.
And now, things have gotten so much better.
SpaceX is building another Starship launch pad in Florida, and the state government has just shocked even Musk himself, offering jaw-dropping benefits no one saw coming.
So what exactly did Florida just do?
Let’s break it down in today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

Right now, Starship development at Starbase, Texas, is going pretty smoothly. According to Musk, the Starbase site alone is expected to generate a steady cash flow of up to $15.5 billion this year. He’s planning to use that money to build another factory at the Kennedy Space Center and a new Starship launch pad just a few miles away on Florida’s coast. With strong backing from the Florida government, this next phase of construction is expected to move ahead quickly.
And it looks like SpaceX’s plans are getting even more support, with the Florida government recently surprising the company with a huge gift.
Here’s how it started: A few months after the final Delta IV Heavy launch in April last year, the U.S. Air Force revealed that SpaceX had expressed interest in taking over SLC-37, a launch pad originally designed and used by ULA for their rockets. This interest was documented in environmental review reports, which officially kicked off the process for the Air Force to consider leasing the pad to SpaceX.

As of last week, June 6th, 2025, the U.S. Air Force, including the Space Force, released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement that could pave the way for SpaceX to officially take over Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral.
According to the draft, SpaceX's plans for the site are considered fully viable, with no significant negative impact on the local environment, historical sites, social structures, or cultural heritage. Even better, the EIS also concluded that these activities wouldn’t unfairly impact competition with other launch providers.
At the moment, the Department of Defense is leading the environmental review and approval process, and things are already moving. Crews are expected to begin dismantling the old Delta IV structures at the pad within the next week or two, a clear sign that preparations for the handover are well underway.
