I first came across Angela Calvert-Jones back in the autumn of 2014 when Bath Newseum first gave her some publicity for a project dear to her heart.

She had organised an open-air exhibition - alongside Bath Abbey - of visual boards representing some of the known and lesser-known faces of those city-dwellers who had added to our history by their own particular accomplishments.

Angela took her inspiration from her own great-grandfather William Sweetland - a local church organ builder of note - who is now one of those local (and nationally-known) celebrities to be featured in print with the publication of History Makers of Bath.

Angela launched her book at a gathering at Woods Restaurant last night.

She told her audience:
"My main reason for the book is to celebrate Bath’s History Makers and to explore their full potential. Their legacies attract visitors worldwide and encourage people to choose Bath as their home. Yet very few people have any idea of their tangible assets, who they are, or their ability to inspire new generations, whether in engineering, art, theatre, or sport. Understanding the success and failures of Bath’s history makers provides significant education for us all."

Two previous 'History Makers' events raised over £16,000 for charity.

She added: 'The History Makers of Bath book continues to support a local charity. I am pleased to announce that the History Makers book is supporting Focus Counselling, a well-deserving charity with offices in Bath, Frome and Wells."

Before things got too busy l had time to ask her how she decided to put her local celebrities into a book form.
