Why the Luftwaffe DOMINATED in 1940
The Battle of France was one of the most stunning military victories of all time. One key contributor was the German Air Force, the Luftwaffe, who dominated the skies over France in 1940. But why was the Luftwaffe so successful? To find out, we joined forces with Christoph Bergs from Military Aviation History.
From the Scramble Exhibition at IWM Duxford Christoph looks at three case studies. The crossings of the Meuse, the bombing of Dunkirk and Operation Paula, the last full out attack against the French Air Force in June 1940. These will help us understand the success of the Luftwaffe in France, as well as some of the problems that only got worse as the war went on.
