The Heartbreaking Love Story of Shirin and Farhad
The Love Story of Shirin and Farhad
Shirin was a beautiful and wise Armenian princess, admired by many for her charm and intelligence. Khosrow Parviz, the prince of Persia, heard about her beauty and fell in love. Shirin, too, felt affection for Khosrow, and a deep romantic connection started to grow between them.
However, their love was tested by distance, political struggles, and rivals. Among those rivals was Farhad, a skilled sculptor and a humble man, who one day saw Shirin and instantly fell deeply in love with her. Though Shirin's heart belonged to Khosrow, she appreciated Farhad’s pure and selfless love.
Khosrow, jealous of Farhad’s devotion, devised a cruel plan. He told Farhad that if he could carve a path through Mount Bisotun to bring water to Shirin’s palace, he might win her heart.
Motivated by love, Farhad worked day and night, carving through the mountain with nothing but a pickaxe, inspired by his deep devotion to Shirin. Years passed, and his work amazed everyone.
But Khosrow, fearing he might actually succeed, sent a false message to Farhad, claiming that Shirin had died. Heartbroken and devastated, Farhad threw himself from the mountain and died.
When Shirin learned of Farhad’s tragic end, she mourned deeply. Though she eventually married Khosrow, the memory of Farhad’s pure and undying love remained eternal.
Today, Farhad is remembered as a symbol of true, selfless love—a lover who asked for nothing in return but gave everything.
