The Lanciarii | Elite "Special Forces" of the Roman Legions (Recently discovered!)

Evidence for a new type of legionaries is slowly emerging, which offers even more insight to Roman battle mechanics. We are proud to present the Lanciarii - Rome's elite legionaries trained to fight as flexible light infantry. Their role is best known during the battle of Nisibis, where they set up traps for Persian cataphracts, the most feared heavy cavalry of the ancient world, and slaughtered them in large numbers.
