Closer Look with the Curator: Talismanic Youth Jama

Curator Noorashikin Zulkifli shares with us about this Talismanic shirt. Called a “jama”, all the chapters of the Quran are written on it – in black and red Ghubari script. The script is meant to be as fine as specks of dust. Perfect for writing in small spaces! It’s thought these shirts were worn underneath armour for protection during battles, and also perhaps as healing garments.
