The Dangerous Rise of Scientism
What is scientism?
Science is one of the most powerful tools ever devised by humankind, but it's important to distinguish it from scientism—the belief that science is the only valid source of knowledge, and that ideas are only legitimate if they emerge through scientific methods.
In this video, we examine some of the unprecedented threats to human survival. We explore the Twin Nuclei Problem as described by Eric Weinstein, which highlights the dangers posed by nuclear and gene-editing technologies. At the heart of it all lies a fundamental question: Do we have the wisdom to wield such astonishing—and potentially devastating—technologies?
To use science responsibly, we must recognize its limits. We explore two classic philosophical challenges identified by David Hume that reveal those boundaries:
1. The Problem of Induction
2. The Is-Ought Problem
