The Mystery of the Martyred King
#History #Secrets
In the 7th century, a lone monk was approached by a man on horseback.
The king of Glywysing and Gwent, in South Wales, had requested his assistance in defeating the invading Anglo-Saxons.
This man, Tewdrig, had been king once, but in a rare occurrence in Welsh history, and indeed Medieval history, he had abdicated to pursue a life in the church.
Tewdrig would soon be met by an angel, however, who gave him a fairly straightforward prophecy. He would face the Anglo-Saxons in battle, repel their invading force, be struck with a single blow, and pass away three days later.
This is the mystery of the martyred king.
