Fritz Wunderlich was born in Kusel, Germany in 1930.He was a lyric tenor, famed for his singing of the Mozart repertory and various lieder. He tragically died in an accident, said to have been caused by badly tied shoe laces, in 1966 aged just 35. This recording of the aria Che Gelida Manina from Puccini's opera La Boheme was made at Hotel Esplanade, Berlin in September 1956 with the Orchestra of the Städtische Oper Berlin, conducted by Richard Kraus. The recording was made in mono. I have tried to improve the audio quality as much as possible and just for a "live" effect and to add presence I have added applause.
