This painting was rejected as a fake, but could the experts be wrong? A painting believed to be the work of Alfred Sisley was bought by an American couple near Chicago for $2,600. It was described by the seller as “in the style of Sisley”, when it was brought over from Germany after WWII. The couple had the work professionally cleaned and tried to get it authenticated in France, but it was dismissed by the committee. Despite it having a striking resemblance and similar artistic techniques to Sisley’s work, and the fact that Sisley also worked on panels similar to this particular piece, the couple sought an investigation by the Fake or Fortune? team. Could it really be worth over $250,000?
