By the time European explorers reached Australia in February 1606, indigenous people had been living there for around fifty to sixty-five thousand years. The first people to reach Australia entered a wild world of colourful birds, dangerous reptiles, gigantic marsupials and dramatic environments. These people were the ancestors to today's Aboriginal Australians, and, over the generations, passed down their culture and knowledge to those living in Australia today
