As a new year begins, space fans like us will get a new gift. The gift is the incoming flight 7 of the Starship.
With this flight, SpaceX will make a breakthrough in the space industry. Why is this trip so important? Well, that's what I'll explain to you in this video.
THE DATE HAS BEEN SET! According to the documents filed by NASA with the FAA, Flight 7 will be targeted no earlier than January 11. This means we’ll get to see the first flight of the next-gen Starship only 53 days after Flight 6. But there is one thing different this time.

This upcoming flight will debut the second generation of Starship, or Starship V2. While the first version was primarily intended to test Elon's idea, this second version will feature major changes and upgrades to help make the idea a reality.
The first thing we notice is the change in size. At 52.1 meters tall, V2 is almost two meters taller than V1.
With this change in size, the fuel and cargo capacity, as well as the overall weight of the ship, increased significantly. This required improvements in the power of the Booster. One clue is that the Booster 14 used this time has already undergone a spin prime test even though they decided to skip this test on the previous launch. This shows that improvements have been made to Booster 14, which they must have thoroughly tested before using it to launch Starship V2.

On this upcoming flight, Starship V2 will be equipped with a new heat shield similar to the one used on flight 5.
Starship uses approximately 18,000 hexagonal heat shield tiles to cover the belly of the vehicle, many of which are a standardized hexagonal shape. Unlike the space shuttle heat shield, which was designed to fit different locations on the spacecraft. While this would provide good protection, each heat shield was different, making replacement and manufacturing a living hell. By having the majority of them as a common design, Starship’s heat shield is easier to build, install, and maintain. This reduces preparation time between flights and aligns with SpaceX’s goal of increasing Starship’s flight frequency.
