SpaceX revealed New Solution to Solve Starship V2 Raptor Engine TROUBLE!
Starship V2 is now regarded as the unluckiest version of Starship, having exploded in both of its first two launches.
So, what exactly is the issue with Starship V2?
What is SpaceX's solution?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech!
Up until this year, SpaceX—the aerospace juggernaut owned by Elon Musk—had been making remarkable strides with its flagship Starship rocket.
Among their successes, they demonstrated that the massive Super Heavy booster—the rocket’s lower stage—could autonomously navigate back to its launch tower and be deftly caught midair by mechanical arms. A groundbreaking milestone in the quest for a fully reusable launch system.
Equally impressive, they showed that the upper-stage Starship, powered by its Raptor engines, could reignite in the harsh vacuum of space—a critical capability for executing controlled re-entries into Earth’s atmosphere and ensuring precise landings.

These accomplishments painted a promising picture for Starship, a vehicle designed not just to reach orbit but to ferry humans and cargo to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
The first version of Starship's upper stage proved its capabilities, successfully traveling thousands of miles through space and surviving the intense challenge of atmospheric reentry to make an intact landing in the ocean.
Yet, the momentum has stalled with the introduction of Starship Block 2, the latest evolution of the spacecraft featuring a slightly larger upper stage, enhanced heat shielding, and a reengineered fuel delivery system. Intended to build on prior successes, this upgraded design has instead encountered serious setbacks.

In both of its test flights to date, Block 2 has met a dramatic and premature end, erupting into midair fireballs well before reaching the edge of space. These failures stand in stark contrast to the older models, which had reliably cleared similar hurdles.
So, where exactly is the problem with Starship V2?
Many sources suggest that the root cause of the failures in both launches was the occurrence of a “harmonic response”.
Harmonic response is a phenomenon where a system vibrates with increased intensity because an external force matches its natural rhythm.
Picture pushing a child on a swing: if you time your pushes to sync with the swing’s natural back-and-forth motion, it climbs higher with ease. That’s resonance at work.
