One possible feature that will help reduce the price of Model 2 Redwood lies in Tesla’s innovative use of 4680 battery cells. These next-generation batteries have an energy density increase of approximately 16%, a major improvement over the previous 2170 cells. This allows Tesla to reduce the amount of active material used while enhancing range and performance. Moreover, the 4680 cells are designed for simpler manufacturing, cutting production costs by up to 56% per kilowatt-hour compared to older designs. This efficiency in energy production plays a crucial role in achieving the low price point for the Model 2.
In addition to battery advancements, Tesla's use of the Giga Press for vehicle manufacturing further reduces costs. By casting large sections of the car’s frame as a single piece, Tesla eliminates the need for complex multi-part assembly processes.
