Great Garden Excitement … We Have Frogspawn!! 🐸
It’s THE most exciting day in my garden because, almost a year after building my wildlife pond, I’m finally able to add some frogspawn, and it’s all thanks to my lovely friend Pauline Crispin who has generously given some to me as a gift. I just could not be more delighted 🐸
So in preparation for the arrival of the frogspawn, I’m giving my wildlife pond a good clean out in readiness. I’ve also added some treatment called “Pure Wildlife Live Beneficial Bacteria” by Evolution Aqua which consists of a Pure Healthy Water Ball and a Pure Waste Remover Ball, and you add one of each every week for every 100 litres of water.
Each Pure Healthy Water Ball:
Improves water clarity and quality
Reduces frequency of cleaning
Converts ammonia and nitrate
Each Pure Waste Remover Ball:
Removes sludge and detritus
Helps to refuce bad smells
Ideal for ponds with no filtration
So I have divided the frogspawn in two and put a clump in both of my ponds, covered them with netting and all being well the eggs should hatch into tadpoles in three weeks.
First the tadpoles will eat their egg sacs, then feed on algae, then i can supplement their diet with boiled lettuce and cucumber. Once their back legs have grown they will turn carniverous, and will eat insects and their larvae and I will research further and make sure they have everything they need.
They should turn into froglets and leave the pond after 14 weeks. Unfortunately on average, only 1 frog in 50 eggs survives into adulthood so I will do my very best to help them as much as i can!
