Some experts say the Fed now has no choice but to push the US into a 'hard landing' recession to pull inflation down. That means layoffs and even possible bankruptcy for millions of Americans. I want to give you the updated information and then we can talk about future predictions. Plus, I’ve got some pretty interesting stocks to look at: recession-proof market bets on Wall Street. Guys, this is serious. Mortgage rates just topped 7%, the highest we’ve seen since October, and before that, the highest we’ve seen in 20 years! Can you afford any sort of housing right now? This just totally wrecks any first time homebuyer hopeful. Just comparing it quickly here, on a $400,000 home with 20% down on a 30-year fixed loan, the monthly payment, including principal and interest, is now roughly $230 a month more than it would have been a month ago. Compared with a year ago, when rates were in the 4% range, today’s monthly payment is about 50% higher. Plus, the people who got a 3% percent mortgage a few years back, they’re not going to want to sell so that tightens up the housing market even more. And we’re not even counting the impact the probable recession is going to have on this whole equation. So, the question is, will this recession create a housing market crash or will we be spared?
