Ancient Roman Mariners May Have Discovered the New World 1,000 Years Before Columbus

Roman mariners were known for their naval dominance in the Mediterranean, utilizing advanced ships like the quinquereme. While most believe they never ventured across the Atlantic, evidence from Oak Island suggests they may have reached the New World centuries before Columbus. A Roman ceremonial sword, found in 2015, is among the key discoveries, along with gold coins, petroglyphs, and traces of European barberry—common in the Roman Empire. DNA tests on local Mi’kmaq people revealed Mediterranean markers.
