The Emergence of the Sun and Moon in Aztec Mythology – The Fourth Age of the Sun
Following the destruction of the third sun, Chalchiuhtlicue, goddess of fresh waters, ruled the Age of Water. Earth became a submerged world where humans, adapted for aquatic life, thrived briefly. However, a catastrophic deluge ended this harmony, transforming survivors into monkeys. The gods then met at Teotihuacan to restore order, leading to Nanahuatzin's courageous sacrifice, creating the fifth sun and overcoming chaos.
