In the Field: Conserving Mead's Milkweed
Mead's Milkweed, Asclepias meadii, is a federally threatened species native to the tallgrass prairies of the eastern and central United States. Initially, habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation caused the species’ decline. Additionally, low reproductive rates have led to its continued decline.
The Missouri Botanical Garden researchers Christy Edwards and Jordan Hathaway recently conducted field research in Anderson County, Kansas, to better understand how pollinators interact with Mead's Milkweed and how this impacts the reproduction rate of the native plant.
