2024/07/16 Member Speaker Series: Stone Carvings of Seiwa-En
In May 1977, the Missouri Botanical Garden dedicated Seiwa-en, the largest Japanese garden in the US at the time. To create a serene landscape, our Japanese Garden incorporates carefully designed plantings, waterfalls, benches, islands, and, notably, a variety of carved stone lanterns and sculptures. Join us for a look at the history, design, and meaning of these items with Tom Bush, longtime Garden docent, who spent the last eighteen months researching and documenting the design, history, and meaning of the stone carvings of Seiwa-en, as well as some interesting stories as to how these many of these items happened to find their home in our Japanese Garden.
Recorded in Centene Hall of the Bayer Event Center at Missouri Botanical Garden on 2024/07/16.
