UN Chief: 'Clamp Down on the Fossil Fuel Industry,' Floats Climate Windfall Tax
U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres called Wednesday for a “windfall” tax on profits of fossil fuel companies to help pay for the body's climate change policies, telling members they need to "clamp down on the fossil fuel industry."
"It is climate crunch time, " Guterres declared from the American Museum of Natural History in New York in a bid to revive focus on climate change while international conflict in Ukraine, Gaza and the Sudan have taken up much of the world's attention.
