Zeus or Jupiter in the Roman world, is the main god of Greek-Latin mythology. Ancient texts say Rhea and his brother Cronus had six children: Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon and Zeus. Chrono's mother, Gaia, warned him that one of his descendants would defeat him, so the titan devoured his children as soon as they were born. But Rhea managed to save Zeus from his father's voracity by giving him a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes instead of the newborn god. The latter was taken to the island of Crete and raised there by one of the nymphs, feeding on nectar, ambrosia and milk from the goat Amalthea.
