During Thursday's question period in the Canadian House of Commons, Conservative MP Michael Chong probed the Liberals about the firing of two high-profile scientists in 2019 from the National Microbiology Laboratory, who had an "extensive relationship" with China that wasn't properly disclosed to Canadian health officials.

The scientists were fired due to a threat to national security.

Health Minister Mark Holland replied that an attack on Canada's security by foreign nations "represents an attack on democracy."

Chong also asked Holland if he stands by claims he made on Feb. 28 that "no sensitive information left the country" when documents proved otherwise. Holland ascertained the documents did not say this.
