SpaceX Starship NEW launch license FAA, FCC...
As the eagerly anticipated third test flight of Starship approaches, encouraging news has surfaced regarding the issuance of the launch license, paving the way for a more streamlined trajectory for Starship.
It seems that SpaceX has completed the necessary paperwork to receive FAA approval.
It is known they have successfully submitted their conclusive report to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) concerning the second launch of its Starship vehicle in November 2023.
It seems that this time SpaceX aims to proceed discreetly, avoiding any negative public sentiment towards the FAA. Consequently, the new launch license may emerge suddenly without any prior announcement.
Notably, there is no significant involvement of the sea and wildlife agency this time, or if the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is involved, it is at a substantially reduced level compared to after IFT-1.
The resumption of Starship Super Heavy vehicle flights depends on the FAA's assurance that any system. The FAA, being a pivotal regulatory authority, must thoroughly assess the submitted report to ensure that any system processes or procedures related to the mishap do not compromise public safety.
Crucially, all requisite documentation for a new launch license for IFT-3 has been submitted, and the FAA is currently reviewing the findings, mitigation steps, and the proposed mission profile for IFT-3. Following this process, it typically doesn't take an extended period for the FAA to provide recommendations on the necessary steps before SpaceX can proceed with the next launch.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. executive Jessica Jensen revealed during a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) discussion in January 2024 that the company expects to get a license from the United States Federal Aviation Administration for the Starship's third flight in February.
This timeline aligns well with the period when SpaceX submitted the necessary documentation to the FAA, as mentioned earlier.
From here we can be somewhat certain of Starship's fixed launch schedule and February, which is even faster than the initial waiting time according to our speculations.
SpaceX has demonstrated its proficiency in working with the FAA and swiftly returning to the launchpad after setbacks. A notable example is the loss of a Falcon 9 rocket during a cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station in 2015. Despite the setback, SpaceX successfully returned to flight six months later, achieving the groundbreaking feat of landing the booster.
