Jan 26, 2024
On Jan. 25, the House Housing Committee held a public hearing for a bill sponsored by Rep. April Connors, R-Kennewick, that would expand urban growth area (UGA) boundaries to allow for the construction of residential housing.
House Bill 2158 would amend the Growth Management Act (GMA) to require local governments to expand urban growth area boundaries, so that any parcel near a residential parcel with access to urban services can be developed for residential purposes.
Washington will need 1.1 million new homes over the next 20 years.
