How to set up tangent with a right triangle.

Setting up Tangent
Hi Welcome to MooMooMath. Today we are going to talk about setting up a tangent ratio. Now a tangent of an angle is opposite over adjacent, and you might know the term SOH CAH TOA and this is the TOA portion of this. Let's look at triangle and try to set up the tangent of A. Here is angle A and we want to set up the Tangent which is the opposite side over the adjacent side. Now tangent is the one trig ratio that does not use the hypotenuse, so we will not be using the side of 5 but we will be using the two legs. What is on the opposite side of the triangle? The side that measures 3 is and that is the opposite side and the side that measures 4 is my adjacent side because it is next to or adjacent to the acute angle. So when I go to set up my ratio I will take the tangent of angle A as 3 over 4. So that is how you will set up the trig ratios. Now let's take the tangent of angle B. The opposite angle of B is 4 and the adjacent angle is 3 therefore the tangent of angle B will be the opposite which is 4 over the adjacent which is 3. So you can see that angles A and B are just reciprocals of each other. So that is how we set up a tangent ratio and there is another video on how you solve these. Hope this was helpful
