Nydri is a #cosmopolitan #tourist resort in the beautiful #island of Lefkada in western Greece. It is one of the #top #popular travel destinations, and became famous #worldwide when the Greek #magnate #Aristotle #Onassis bought the nearby islet #Skorpios. Since then the village has hosted many #celebrities and important #personalities from all over the world, including Maria #Callas and Jackie #Kennedy, numerous #paparazzis and endless #publicity. Today, a #statue dedicated to Onassis stands at the #port.
Nydri lies 16 kilometers south of Lefkada city and only 36 km from #Aktion international #Airport. It has 1200 inhabitants and an east orientation.
According to the famous #German #archaeologist Wilhelm #Dörpfeld, the area of Nidri was once the famous state of #Ithaca, a legendary home of #Odysseus, as described by #Homer. Today, Dörpfeld's grave lies on the tip of Geni #Peninsula.
Nidri is faced directly to Geni (Yenion) peninsula, which is characterized by hills and #evergreen pine forests. There are high mountains behind the city. From there you will get amazing views to the region and the islands of #Ionian Sea.
The center of Nidri is closed for road traffic due to the new pedestrian street, but you can find paid parkings and some free #places.
