Akashi Kaikyo Bridge - Kobe, Japan
The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, also known as the Pearl Bridge, is a suspension bridge located in Japan that connects the city of Kobe to Awaji Island. It is the longest suspension bridge in the world with a length of 3,911 meters (12,831 feet) and was completed in 1998.
The construction of the bridge began in 1986 and took a total of 10 years to complete. The cost of the project was approximately 500 billion yen, or around 4.3 billion US dollars.
The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge was built to withstand earthquakes and strong winds, which are common in the region. The bridge's foundation includes two enormous towers that are 282.8 meters (928 feet) tall, making them the tallest towers in the world.
The bridge has become a popular tourist destination, and visitors can take guided tours that include a visit to the observation deck on the top of one of the towers. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the bridge and the surrounding area.
