Just wanted to get outside and check out the garden. It is still very early spring and the spring garden beauty is not showing just yet. In the garden tour I talked about the evergreen hedge of Skip laurels I planted last year and how they did last winter. I also talked about the Petasites I have planted in the foreground. The petasites have lovely variegation and they really brighten up a part to full shade garden area. These plants remind me of the golden pothos with their light yellow variegation and big broad leaves, a great addition to a garden with a large area that needs to be filled. I also talked about the red buckeye tree which is just starting to push out it's foliage which hopefully will be the case for the Paniculata hydrangea trees planted nearby. I have a big open space in the garden wall now. I will likely be planting this up with natives and annuals aimed at creating a garden for the pollinators and wildlife. It will look out of place, but who cares, I don't! The cold hardy palm trees all wintered very well! Needle palms, sabal palmetto seedling, windmill and mule palms all absolutely thrived through the mild temps of the 2019/2020 winter. I have some spring flowers and shrubs like, pansies, snapdragrons, allysum and azaleas ready to get planted as soon as the weather perks up. I always enjoy giving a tour of my plants even when they are still dormant! Maybe I will do a houseplant tour or a tropical plant tour next. :)
