Shopping For Plants & 40 Minutes of Chaos || Caladiums, Seeds, Japanese beetles & Pruning Bananas
This was a very back and forth kind of week. Before filming I worked on clearing out more storm damage from a few weeks ago and dealt with some flooding issues. Doing this took up much of my time that I had for filming, but it's good to have it done. I went to a local nursery, Timberwinds nursery here in St. Louis. They have a great selection of annuals, perennials and tropicals. While giving a nursery tour, I found some Pinky Winky Hydrangea standards that I was searching for to use in another project. It was nice to go out and shop for plants, haven't done any shopping videos or hauls in a while. When I got home I got back to work cleaning up the patio after finding out some area would need to be cleared. I love having the open space! I also translplanted a lantana tree and gave a caladium tour. So many of the caladiums are waking up and filling me with joy! In this video I showed the Caladium 'fiesta' Caladium 'florida beauty' and Caladium 'spring fling.' The spring fling Caladium is amazing! I'm so excited to watch it grow and see that variegation intensify. I scattered seeds and briefly showed the varieties i'm growing. Most of the seeds I scattered are for cut flowers and just for fun to add some color. I also pruned my banana trees, the cold hardy Musa basjoo bananas look best (in my opinion) when the lower, spring growth gets pruned out in early summer. Lastly I discovered some Japanese beetles on my plants. I used my organic spray for japanese beetles on them and it slowly worked. The diluted peppermint oil only harms insects on contact so it is pollinator safe, unless you spray it right on a pollinator. It should be harmless to pollinators drinking from the flowers as well, but I gave those a rinse once the japanese beetles where gone, just to be safe.
