New Plants I'm Excited About
Just a quick video with the new puppy and talking about some new and exciting plants. In this plant haul, I'm showing off five new plants that I picked up from a local nursery last week. A couple of these are bucket list plants and i'm so happy to have found them! First off I showed the Clethra alnifolia 'ruby spice' which is a super hardy, deciduous woody shrub. The Clethra or Summersweet, have a strong fragrance and the pollinators absolutely love them! These shrubs flower in the shade, which is not a common thing amongst shrubs and they are tolerant of wet soil and boggy conditions. Excellent plants! I also talked about a couple of Clethra varities I would like to get from Proven Winners. The Vanilla Spice Summersweet and the Sugartina Crystalina Summersweet. Each have more refined growth habits and longer flower heads. Next I showed the Summerific Candy Crush Hibsicus from Proven Winners. These marvelous, hardy hibiscus have beautiful 8 inch, bubblegum pink flowers which remind me of larger Seminole Pink Tropical hibiscus flowers. The Oso Easy Landscape Roses have been growing on me lately. I picked up a Oso easy Hot Paprika which has orange flowers that age into a orange-pink/coral. Lastly I showed a bucket list plant that I've wanted for a long time. That plant is the Schefflera taiwaniana 'winged phoenix' and it is beautiful! The schefflera taiwaniana have been relatively rare and hard to find plants in my area. They are a magnificent, cold hardy tropical plant! Well, tropical looking, cold hardy plant. How to grow schefflera is very simple, even for the more exotic and rare forms. I will be growing this similar to how I would grow a Fatsia japonica. Bright filtered light in the morning with afternoon shade and rich, moisture retentive soil that will not be allowed to dry out.
