How to unclog and clean dishwasher drain hose

Your old dishwasher sometimes suddenly stops draining and trying to figure out the root reason behind it becomes a headache.

- Step 1: Remove the lower rack, under the bottom, please check the small particle strainer and then the big particle strainer to find any clog in it. If it has clog, clean and put back in. If it does not, move to the next step.

- Step 2: Check the drain hose underneath the sink. Take it off, then pour water in it and it does not drain. It does not backfill. It should have backfilled into the bottom tub at the bottom of the dishwasher but it didn't. So the drain hose might be clogged.

- Step 3: Take the bottom panel off. Disconnect the hose attached to the pump but make sure you get all the water out of the bottom of the dishwasher. Because as soon as you pull that hose off, you are going to get a boatload of water coming out of there.

Check the pump by turning it on and you can see the yellow blades in there and there is a little water coming out of it. So the pump works.

- Step 4: Use a thin coat hanger, bend and slide the coat hanger into the drain hose. Remember to loop the end to make sure it does not snag anything in there. Just ream it back and forth, pushing out a lot of grease that builds up in there for a long time.

- Step 5: Use a pitcher with hot water and pour in the drain hose. Now you see more grease coming out of the hose and it’s clean.

Put back everything.
