An Official Orchard, A Garden Failure & More

Welcome to this week’s Wednesday recap video of everything I’ve managed to get done in the garden over the past week.

And despite the very windy and wet weather, I did manage to get quite a few jobs done.

Firstly, I planted a Cox’s Orange Pippin Apple tree which takes my fruit trees up to five, which apparantly constitutes an orchard! So I can officially say I have an ‘orchard of fruit trees’ 🤣🤣. I also did quite a lot of research on how to prune them - apples and pears should have a central stem with branches coming off that, while cherries and plums should have their central stem removed, to create a vase like effect. So let’s hope I’ve done that right!

I figured out a better system of discouraging the birds from eating the seeds in my smart pots, as the plastic domes were proving to be quite a nuisance taking those on and off when I wanted to water.

About three weeks ago I spent half an hour moving my large black planters from one end of the garden to the other ... realised I preferred them in their original spot so moved them all back again 🤣🤣

And there’ll probably be a “failure of the week” because there definitely was this week as on checking the Lily tubers I had safely stored in the garage, I realised I had not looked after them as well as I should have, because it turns out they are all soft and mouldy. So that’s a lesson well learned!

So that’s all my gardening jobs for the past week and I hope you enjoy my video!
