那天我打從你門前過
I walked past your door the other day,
你正提著水桶往外潑
you were pouring water out of a bucket.
潑在我的皮鞋上
You splashed it all over my shoes,
路上的行人笑得呵 呵 呵
and the pedestrians on the road laughed out loud.
你什麼話也沒有對我說
You didn't say anything to me.
你只是瞇著眼睛望著我
you were just looking at me with narrowed eyes.

Hi, everyone!
又到了唐笛說故事的時間囉
It’s time for Tang Di’s Storytelling!
我想啊你們或多或少都有一種經驗
I think you all have more or less had the experience of
也就是被別人惡作劇
being pranked by someone
或者是對別人惡作劇
or playing a prank on someone else.
其實啊 惡作劇這個行為是
In fact, the act of playing pranks is
噹 噹非常不好的而且也是不對的
very, very bad and wrong.
因為我們無法掌握

我們在惡作劇之後所產生的後果
the consequences of our pranks,
是不是我們能夠把握的喔

像今天這個故事

古代有個沛國
In ancient times, there was a kingdom of Pei,
那這裡有一個人叫周大君
and there was a man named Zhou Da Jun.
在他小的時候
When he was little,
他們家的屋簷外面啦
there was a swallow nest
有一個燕窩裡面有
outside his house,
三隻剛剛出生的小燕子
inside there were three new born swallows.
母燕媽媽每次啊
The mother swallow
都會嘴對嘴的餵他們吃食物
would feed them mouth to mouth.
而這個周大君從小啊
Since Zhou was little,
就調皮又搗蛋
he was very naughty.
他常常會去逗弄這個小燕子
He would often play with the swallows
也常常將自己的手指頭啊
and put his finger
伸進去燕窩裡面去跟小燕子玩喔
inside the nest to play with them.
小燕子很可愛
The little swallows were so adorable
他們也會張開嘴巴
that they would open their mouths
來接受周大君的手指頭
to catch Zhou's finger.
那麼有一天啊 周大君突發奇想
Then one day, Zhou had a wicked idea,
他拿了三根薔茨
he took three chiang-tzus
來餵三隻小燕子
and fed them to the three little swallows.
什麼是薔茨喔
What is a chaing-tzu?
其實他是一個屬於有毒的植物
It’s actually a type of poisonous plant,
所以啊這小燕子吃了之後不一會啦
so after the swallows ate them,
他們全都死掉了
they all died soon afterwards.
哇 這個時候周大君啊
At this time,
也自己看到嚇了一跳
Zhou was also shocked,
但是又無可奈何
but there was nothing he could do about it.
尤其母燕子媽媽很可憐耶
The mother of the swallows was very sad,
他回來之後看到他的小燕子們全都死掉了
when she came back, her baby swallows were all dead,
非常的傷心難過悲鳴不已
she was so sad that she couldn't stop wailing.
那周大君長大了之後結婚了
Zhou grew up and got married,
很巧啊他的妻子
and coincidentally, his wife
在同一年幫他生了三個兒子
gave birth to three sons in the same year.
說也奇怪
Strangely enough,
這三個兒子啊
the three sons
一直長到了快二十歲的時候都還不會說話
grew up to be almost twenty years old and could not even speak yet,
整天只會咿咿呀呀
so all they could do was babbling.
有一天有一個過路人
One day, a passenger
經過了周大君他們家
passed by Zhou's house
說口渴想要跟周大君要水喝
and said he was thirsty and wanted to ask him for water.
然後啊 他就聽到屋裡面啊
Then he heard this babbling sound
發出這個咿咿呀呀的聲音
coming from inside the house.
他就問周大君說 請問這是什麼聲音
He asked Zhou, “May I ask what this sound is?”
周大君就說不好意思
Zhou said, “I'm sorry,
這是我們家孩子的聲音
but it's the sound of our children,
因為他們不會說
because they can't speak,
整天只會咿咿呀呀
and all they do is babbling all day.”
那這個過路人就對著周大君說
Then this passenger said to Zhou,
喔 原來是這樣
“Oh, so that's how it is,
那你要不要想一想
then do you want to think about
你是不是做過了什麼樣的事情
what you have done
才會導致自己有這樣子的情況呢
to cause yourself to be in this situation?”
那周大君就很認真的想 想啊想
Zhou then thought about it very seriously
嗯 他說沒有耶
and said, “No,
我一向啊都喜歡做好事
I always like to do good deeds
幫助別人行善積德
and help others.
你說要做什麼大錯事 沒有啊
I have never done anything very wrong.”
那這個過路人繼續問了
Then the passenger continued,
那很好幫助別人是件很好的事情
“That's good. It's good to help others.
那你再想想你小的時候呢
How about when you were a child?”
ㄟ 周大君聽到這個過路人這麼一問
When Zhou heard the passenger's questions,
這個人好像不是一般的普通人
he felt that this person was not an ordinary person,
他就更加認真的想啊想 想啊想
so he thought about it even more seriously,
想啊 想到了
and remembered that
他小的時候
when he was young,
因為自己的一次惡作劇
he had killed three little swallows
把三隻小燕子啊給弄死了
because of one of his pranks.
他非常的後悔 非常 非常的後悔
He was very, very, very remorseful.
那這個過路客聽到
When this passenger heard
周大君這麼的如此真心誠意的懺悔
such a sincere confession from Zhou,
突然間
he suddenly
變成了一個修道的一個道人喔
became a Taoist priest.
他就對著周大君說
He said to Zhou,
嗯很好 看到你真心誠意的懺悔
“Very well, seeing your sincere confession,
你的罪業從此就消除了
your sins have been forgiven.”
說也奇怪奇跡發生了
Strangely enough, a miracle happened,
周大君的三個兒子
all three of Zhou's sons
突然就能說話了
were suddenly able to speak.
然後這一個道人啊
And then this Taoist priest
轉身就不見了
disappeared all of a sudden.
那麼周大君啊他就非常的感謝這位修道人
Then Zhou was very grateful to this Taoist priest
這個道人啊 給他來帶來這麼大的福分
who had brought him such a great blessing.
那他也告訴他的兒子們
Zhou also told his sons
以後啊絕對不要啊
not to think that
認為這個小小的惡作劇
a small prank would not
是沒有什麼樣的大影響
have a big impact on them in the future,
其實不是喔
which is not true.
古代有一個非常有名的人相信你們啦
In ancient times, there was a very famous man,
應該認識他叫做 劉備
whom I believe you all know, named Liu Bei.
他曾經說了
He once said,
勿以惡小而為之
“Do not think any vice trivial, and so practice it;
勿以善小而不為
do not think any virtue trivial, and so neglect it”,
什麼意思呢 也就是說啊
what does that mean? That is to say,
你不要覺得這是一件微不足道的小小的錯誤就去做它了
you should not do something bad just because you think it is a insignificant mistake,
因為你不知道會有什麼樣的結果
because you don't know what consequences it will lead to.
你也不要因為覺得這是一個小小小小的善的行為
And don't think it's okay not to do something good
就算了不做了也不對
just because you think it's a relatively small act of kindness.
其實只要是錯的事情不管大小
In fact, if something is wrong, no matter how big or small,
就是不要做
just don't do it;
只要是好的事情不管大小
if something is good, no matter how big or small,
努力去做就是
just try your best to do it.
我跟大家說得

時時提醒自己做個善良的好人
