The Six Blind Men and the Elephant - Wisdom Tales
The Six Blind Men and the Elephant
In a remote region of India, many years ago, a wise man had set out on a journey to a sacred city. To do so, he rode on the back of an elephant, which relieved him of the heavy journey. One evening, seeing that night was approaching and knowing that he had to cross a jungle area, he decided to stop to let his faithful pachyderm rest.
Thinking of this, he noticed a modest dwelling by the side of the road, next to which was a rather spacious barn. So he left the elephant in the barn and approached the house to ask for lodging for the night.
When he knocked on the door, six young brothers came out.
-Good evening, my good man, what can I do for you? -asked the one who seemed to be the eldest.
-Good evening, young men, - replied the wise man-. I come to beg your hospitality. I must spend the night with my elephant, and I need lodging and food for both of us. As soon as the sun rises I will be on my way.
-It will be a pleasure to serve you,- replied another of the young men-. But we are very curious, what is an elephant?...
