Hi, everyone
又到了唐笛說故事的時間了
It's time for Tang Di's Storytelling
今天要跟大家說的這個故事啊 有一點點深奧
The story I’m telling today is a little deep,
但是我相信大家一定聽得懂
but I am sure you all can understand it.
那就是 三世業債一世還
It is “Karmic debts of 3 lifetimes, repaid in 1”

那因為故事比較長一點
Since it is a longer story,
所以會分為上下兩集
I will divide it into two episodes
來跟大家做分享喔
to share with you.
那今天的故事是這樣的
So here's the story.

北宋年間
During the Northern Song Dynasty,
有一個村莊住著一個十來歲的孩子
there was a village where a teenage boy lived.
他腳不方便是個瘸子而且還是個孤兒喔
He is crippled and was also an orphan.
平常的生活十分困苦
He had a very hard life.
都是靠鄰居的幫忙
He had to rely on the help of his neighbors
或者是自己上街乞討而來的
or begging on the street to make ends meet.
在他住的村莊裡 有一條河
In the village where he lived, there was a river.

往來的村民和路人啊
Villagers and passers-by
都必須涉水而過
had to wade through the water.
尤其老年人更是非常的不方便
It was especially inconvenient for the elderly.
再來呢
What’s more?
再加上如果河床漲水的時候
If the riverbed swells
哇 更是存在著危險性
It's even more dangerous
那說也奇怪啊
Strangely enough,
村民們沒有任何一個人想改變現狀
none of the villagers want to change the current situation.
唯獨只有這個孩子
This boy is the only one
每天都撿石頭來堆放在河邊
who picks up rocks and piles them up by the river every day.
村民們看見這個孩子
When the villagers saw the boy doing this
做這個事情就問他
they asked him,
你為什麼要撿石頭 來堆放在這裡呢
"Why are you picking up rocks and piling them here?”
孩子回答說 因為啊
The boy replied, "Because,
我想要幫這一條河修一座石橋
I want to build a stone bridge over the river.”
大家聽了覺得
Everyone thought
這個孩子啊 在做白日夢
the boy was daydreaming.
而且啊 簡直就是在說瘋話
They all thought it was just some crazy talk
嘲笑完之後就都離開了
and then left after making fun of him.
這個孩子啊 並沒有因為大家的嘲笑 而放棄喔
This boy did not give up because everyone was laughing at him.
每天還是一樣 堅持著撿石頭來堆放在河邊
Every day, as always, he was picking up rocks and piling them up by the river.
皇天不負苦心人
God helps those who help themselves.
在這個日積月累之下
With this accumulation of time,
終於啊 河邊啦 讓孩子撿的石頭堆成一座小山
finally, the riverside was piled up with a little rocks mountain
那大家看到這個孩子 這麼的認真
When everyone saw how serious this boy was,
而且啊被他的精神所感動
they were all touched by his spirit.
於是都紛紛的加入了撿石 採石
so everyone joined in picking up rocks,
還有請了專業的工匠 大家一起來為這條河修石橋
and even hired a professional craftman to build the stone bridge together
就在有一天 這個孩子在鑿石頭的時候
One day, while digging for rocks,
被跳起來的小石頭砸到雙眼
this boy was hit in both eyes by small rocks that jumped up and struck him.
受傷之後不久失明了
and he lost his sight shortly afterwards.
大家看到這個孩子的遭遇都為他覺得很憐惜
When everyone saw what happened to this boy, they all felt sorry for him
而且他感覺到非常的不公平
and felt that it was very unfair for him,
覺得老天爺有沒有知道這個孩子的遭遇呢
and wondered if God knew what happened to him.
可是啊這個孩子並沒有怨天尤人喔
However, the boy never complained.
他依然每天來到河邊 做他能力所能做的事情
He still came to the river every day and did the best he could.
哇 石橋終於建好了 大家非常開心的慶祝著
Wow, the stone bridge is finally finished, everyone had a great time celebrating.
這個孩子的臉上 也露出了生平以來 最歡樂的笑容了
On the boy’s face, he had the happiest smile on his face in his entire life.
就在這個時候 天空下起了一場大雨
At that moment, a heavy rain began to fall from the sky,
伴隨著一場巨雷聲
accompanied by a loud thunderclap.
哇 巨雷響一過之後
After the thunderclap,
大家驚覺這個孩子 已經被雷擊中倒地身亡
Everyone realized that the child had been struck by lightning and died.

於是大家都覺得 到底為什麼
So everyone wondered why
老天爺沒有看到 這個孩子是如此的善良
God hadn't seen that this child was so kind,
如此的可憐 他又做了這麼多的好事
so pitiful. after all the good he's done,
怎麼能夠讓他有如此的報應呢
how can he get such retribution?
哇 村民們情緒整個就沸騰起來了
The villagers got all emotional
決定要幫這個孩子來申冤
and decided to help the boy to redress his grievances.
恰巧大家心目中的青天大老爺包公來到了現場
It happened that everyone's beloved Justice Bao arrived on the scene!
那他們呢就攔下了包公的官轎
They stopped Bao Gong's official sedan chair
將這個孩子的遭遇啦 告訴我包公
and explained what had happened to the boy to him.
包公聽了之後也覺得不可思議啊
Bao Gong was surprised to hear that.
不是都說善惡有報嗎
Isn't it said that you get what you deserve?
這個孩子這麼的善良 怎麼能夠有得到如此的惡報
How can such a kind boy get such bad consequences ?
於是啊 寫下了六個字
Therefore, Bao Gong wrote this down,
「寧行惡 勿行善」之後
“Better to do evil than good.”
上了官轎就轉身離開了
Then he got into the sedan chair and left
好啦故事說到這裡
Okay, that’s today’s story!
真的是像大家村民們看到的
It's really like what the villagers saw?
孩子這麼的善良
The boy was so kind,
可是卻得到了惡果
but he got bad consequences
不是 大家都知道的道理
Isn't it common knowledge that
就是「善有善報 惡有惡報」嗎
“Good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil”?
那為什麼這個孩子的下場是如此呢
Then why did this boy end up like that?
孩子的下場 真的是這樣嗎
Did the boy really end up like that?
