Beauregard Bottomley and his sister Gwenn see a television quiz show that Beuregard writes off. As a genuis, he finds the questions quite easy to answer. Through a twist of fate Beauregard ends up on the show, but keeps deferring his winnings in an effort to ultimately win $40 million! But with that much money comes drama and personal motives begin to be questioned.
